The National Water Resources Institute (NWRI) is the foremost institution for capacity building in the water resources sector. It contributes to skilled manpower training and provision of technical services in all aspects of water resources. It has responsibilities for planning and execution of research activities, acquisition, achieving and analysis of data and dissemination of information for sustainable water resources development in Nigeria and Internationally. It is committed to the practical training of Engineers, Scientists, Technologists and Technicians equipped with skills for translating scientific and technological knowledge in integrated water resources management for the nation. It also conducts training for non-technical officers in the water sector.

The Outreach Division (OD) is the functional division for designing and conducting short courses to extend the water related technology to industries and end users. All the courses present an internal coherence gearing towards motivation of the participants to acquire the necessary skills and knowledge for their jobs. Each course will consist of mini-lectures, practical sessions, case studies and group discussions to build participant's capacity and understanding. Great efforts are made to stimulate interactions between participants and facilitators to share experiences.

The training will be structured to include syndicate sessions and field visits to test the applicability of knowledge gained using the different tools. Hand-outs and other instructional materials will be used extensively to facilitate the training. Practicals are given priority in our training courses.
